This arenophile adventive ruderal called 'Seaside Petunia' is present in Europe only in Danube Delta (Sulina and Sf. Gheorghe). It is present as a rare, located ruderal also in places from New South Wales, Australia and in eastern United States of America where also cultivated forms with larger flowers are present. It is native in western U.S.A. (see here and here), Central America and South America (see here). It lives in Danube Delta since the XIXth century at least when it was discovered and published under the name Petunia vulgaris Brandza (1898). In the XXth century it was reported as lost for a long time after this it was re-discovered in the two locations above mentioned from Tulcea county. Seeminlgy it is accidentally transported with the gravel and sand used as balast by trans-oceanic boats.
